Revenues up 29% in
November as company moves into niche areas
such as Bluetooth® modules and SiP
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
Taipei ,
Taiwan
, Dec 8, 2003… Orient
Semiconductor Electronics (OSE) (TSE: 2329) today announced November 2003 revenue of NTD
1.41 billion, up 8 percent sequentially and up 29 percent year-over-year. The
company reported that this was the fifth consecutive month that sales
increased.
“Group sales are picking up in line with the general upswing in the
global technology industry,” said Edward Duh,
president, OSE. “In
the semiconductor division we are seeing an increase in outsourcing from our
large customers, such as Infineon, as they utilize our more advanced
system-in-package
(SIP)* technologies.”
Stricter requirements for
higher performance and smaller footprints in the global testing and packaging
industry continue to boost demand for stacked packages, SIP, and other
integrated designs that use technologies such as ball-grid array (BGA) and
chip-scale according to recent analysts comments.
“Continued orders from
clients such as Infineon has proved the success of OSE’s strategic product mix
transformation,” said Duh.
In its Finished Products Group (FPG) OSE also announced that it would
supply Infineon Technologies
AG with complete Bluetooth® modules and
Bluetooth® RF modules for
3G cellular phones and hands-free automobile
applications. OSE currently has capacity to produce 30
million Bluetooth® modules per year
for its global customers.
OSE noted a sharp increase in orders for wireless applications as
consumers and corporates rapidly adopt the technology. Wireless products such as Bluetooth® modules,
802.11a/b/g wireless LAN products, global positioning systems
(GPS) and wireless routers now account for 40% of revenue in OSE’s
FPG.
